Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry has been appointed as new ambassador to the United States by prime minister Nawaz Sharif. He was working as foreign secretary before this new assignment.

Mr. Chaudhry will replace current ambassador Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani from March next month.

Mr. Jilani also worked as foreign secretary before his appointment as ambassador on January 2, 2014. Both Mr. Jilani and Chaudhry are career diplomats.

Mr. Chaudhry will become Pakistan’s 27 ambassador to US. Maliha Lodhi holds the distinction of serving two different terms as ambassador to US, first from 21 January 1994 to 30 January 1997 and the second 17 December 1999 to 4 August 2002.

Aizaz Chaudhry holds Masters degree in International Relations from University of Massachusetts.
