IPL is just around the corner. The 8th season of the T20 tournament is going to kick start on Wednesday April 8 and the first match will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.
Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions of this season, having won the previous IPL season. They have won the title twice, once in 2012 (IPL 5) and once in 2014 (IPL 7)
The T20 league is will be held in various cities across India and a total number of 60 matches will be played.
The auctions of the 8th edition were held on 16 February, 2015. It brought many happiness while sadness for others. Some of the big names went unsold, including Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Hashim Amla, while the costliest buy of IPL history was Delhi Daredevils buying of Yuvraj Singh for a whopping 16 crores. The surprise buy was Kolkata Knight
The surprise buy was Kolkata Knight Riders’ KC Cariappa, who was grabbed for a hefty ₹2.4 crores. He is said to be the next mystery spinner for the team, with their trump card, Sunil Narine being unsure of playing this IPL because of his illegal bowling action.
The Opening Ceremony is going to take place 2 days before the start of the tournament and will be telecasted on the same day of the match. Rajasthan Royals’ franchise owner, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra having sold their stake because of the spot fixing scandal have left the team with a new owner while rest of the teams remain with the same owners.
