Imran questions Nawaz Sharif’s Silence over Indian Army Shelling

Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has questioned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s silence over Indian army’s unprovoked shelling on Pakistani territory which has left a dozen dead and many injured. “This is why they say not to elect a businessman as your prime minister because then he has to look after his business interests rather than country’s”, said Imran Khan while lambasting Nawaz Sharif over his silence on the issue.

Indian Army has been shelling Pakistani areas from three days using heavy weaponry. People living near the line of control (LoC) have been forced to flee the area and take refuge elsewhere.

About a dozen people are reported dead while 40 are injured. Some of the injured are said to be in a critical condition.

Pakistan army officials say that Indian Army’s unprovoked shelling across LoC is aimed at putting Pak Army under pressure. “India wants to get Pakistan’s attention off of its western border and Afghanistan, to further its own vile agenda in that country after NATO’s pull out at the end of this year”, said an official on condition of anonymity.

Pakistani officials have strongly protested to UN mission, stationed on LoC, about India’s provocations. The UN officials are going to visit the areas to ascertain the facts.

Masood Khan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to UN, also took up the issue at UN general assembly on Tuesday.

Prime minister however, has kept mum over the issue so far. There has been no official or unofficial condemnation message issued on behalf of the prime minister.
