In the past two or three years, Tharparkar has become favorite and most talked about topic of media to demonstrate and dramatize the sufferings and hardships faced by the people. It is true that there are high levels of poverty and infrastructure in bad shape. But these problems are also present in other areas of Pakistan so why to dramatize only Thar? Infant mortality is present in high rates. But Media conveys a very misleading impression.
Media says that there are no proper hospitals. They are not equipped with modern facilities and technologies. A report says that in the Nagarparkar Taluka Hospital only 4 out of 32 posts are filled. But the fact is that there were 11 doctors on full-time duty when the report came out. Efforts continue to find doctors willing to serve in the vacant spaces.
It is a myth that patients have to go from one hospital to another but the fact is that the Nagarparkar Hospital is so well-equipped with medicines. In some cases, where patients require immediate referral to the district hospital are sent. Otherwise, hospital staff and facilities are able to provide both emergency and regular treatment for short-term or long-term illness.
Larkana division in Sindh has highest rate of infant mortality. This survey was done by “Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey” and confirmed by “Monitoring the Situation of Children and Women”.
The conditions will continue to improve in the years to come.
