The fate of former President Pervez Musharraf is lurching in the dark as he has faced rejection after rejection from Election Tribunals to contest the upcoming elections. Chitral was the last hope of Pervez Musharraf, however, the Election Tribunal has dismissed the earlier decision of accepting his nomination papers at Chitral constituency. Five appeals had been filed against the Returning Officer’s decision of accepting Musharraf’s nomination papers from Chitral. Earlier the Election Tribunals had upheld the decisions of returning officers to bar him from contesting elections from Kasur and Islamabad and Karachi.
This simply means that after the decision of the Peshawar High Court’s Election Tribunal, Pervez Musharraf’s political future is over. Chitral was the fourth and last constituency where he had filed his nomination papers.
Out of four constituencies where Pervez Musharraf sought to contest elections, Chitral was the only place where his nomination papers had been accepted. However, several people appealed against this decision of the Returning Officer and rejection from Chitral was also excepted because Pervez Musharraf’s nomination papers and subsequent appeals had already been rejected from Karachi, Lahore and Kasur.
Now, that Pervez Musharraf has been rejected from Chitral as well, it is a game over for him. His political career depended on the decision of the same High Court judges who were once dismissed by him back in 2007. It looks like history is repeating itself, but just the other way around.
