Leaking the Judicial Commission Report

According to unconfirmed reports, the judicial commission, formed to probe the rigging charges of PTI in the 2013 general elections, has rejected all allegations leveled by the party.

“The commission has rejected PTI’s allegations of rigging in the 2013 general elections”, said Shahid Hamid, an advocate who represented PMLN before the commission.

However, if the leaked information turned out to be true, it will put a dent on the reputation of the judicial commission which enjoyed full trust of the PTI chairman Imran Khan.

The commission sent a sealed report to Federal Government which was forwarded through Secretary Law Justice (retd) Raza. However, the contents of the report made headlines in the local media before it could reach Prime Minister House.

Even so, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, a senior leader of PMLN and Minister for Planning and Development Reforms, updated his facebook status and asked Imran Khan to apologize.

“Alhamdulillah!!! Reportedly, Judicial Commission has cleared elections 2013 and rejected PTI allegations on all three charges”, said a confident Ahsan Iqbal in the first line of his facebook status. “Finally, truth prevails”, read the next line.

How could Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, a responsible minister of the government, act on hearsays on such important matter. The confidence with which Mr. Ahsan Iqbal asked for an apology shows that he was well informed of the result of the report in advance.

Mr. Iqbal’s confident declaration had an uncanny resemblance to Mr. Nawaz Sharif’s victory speech which he delivered when only 15% of the results had been declared, and that too, unofficial. How could they know in advance?

How could Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Shahid Hamid, or anyone else for that matter, know of the contents of a sealed report?

The important questions now is, who could leak the report?

It is possible that someone from the Judicial Commission leaked the report before it was even sealed.

There are two possible suspects, a member of the judicial commission, or someone who typed the report. But, since one can not even think that someone from the honorable judges who are justices of the supreme court of Pakistan could do such an immoral act, the most potent source of the news could be the person who typed the report.

Nonetheless, no matter who the real source of the leak might be, it has dented the impartial image of the judicial commission.
