PTI’s Multan Jalsa today: A show of power

Multan Jalsa

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is holding a public rally today at Qasim Bagh, Multan. The Party expects a huge turnaround in today’s Multan Jalsa. “Multan belongs to PTI and the people of Multan will prove it today”, said a party official.

Before leaving for Multan, Imran Khan talked to media and said that the era of status quo was over. He also congratulated Malala Yousafzai upon getting Nobel Peace Award.

PTI has chosen Qasim Bagh for its Multan Jalsa where around 30,000 chairs have been placed on the ground. The organizers say they expect about half a million people tonight.

The rally has created a lot of hype due to various reasons. One objective of the rally is the regular show of force in the party’s ongoing campaign against PMLN government. While the other objective is to support Aamir Dogar, an independent candidate, who is contesting by-election on Multan’s NA-149 constituency against Javed Hashmi.

Javed Hashmi on the other hand, has active support of PMLN.  He had also requested PMLN leadership to campaign for him so that he could positively criticize them in the parliament.

“I will win with a huge majority and people will reject container politics”, Hashmi had said.

After leaving PTI, Javed Hashmi has been criticizing Imran Khan and Tehreek-e-Insaf on a regular basis. He has also alleged that Imran Khan was anti-democracy and was working on a heinous plan to destabilize the country.

The atmosphere in Multan is very tense. Just yesterday, violent clashes broke out between PTI and PMLN workers after some PMLN workers tried to attack Sheikh Rasheed.

Update:

About 250,000 people gathered in Qasim Bagh stadium in PTI’s Multan Jalsa today. As always, a huge number of females and children were also present. Imran Khan congratulated the people of Multan and said that it was a historic day for him and the party.

Imran Khan also said that he supported the idea of new provinces. However, he said that it was a serious issue and needed due diligence.
