After a brief stint as Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi has resigned from his position. The exact reason of his resignation is unknown but sources close to ex-governor cite some fundamental differences with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on various issues.
His resignation was promptly accepted by Nawaz Sharif.
According another source, Nawaz Sharif is also considering to bring in a retired military officer to take the charge of KP Governorship. However, the names of Iqbal Zafar Jaghra, Senator Salahuddin Tirmaizi and Pir Sabir Shah are also under consideration.
Among the three Pir Sabir Shah has previous experience of governance in KP as he has served as Chief Minister of the province.
Sardar Abbasi had also served has Chief Minister of the province from 1997 to 1999.
Abbasi had resigned from his seat as a senator for governorship of KP. However, it remains to be seen whether he would be offered senatorship again by Nawaz Sharif.
